Mit über 2500 exzellenten Farbbildern vermittelt der „Clinical Atlas of 101 Common Skin Diseases“ das ganze Spektrum der klinischen Dermatologie. Die wichtigsten Hautkrankheiten werden in all ihren Varianten, in allen Lokalisationen und bei allen Rassen dargestellt. Statt der üblichen 4 bis 10 Bilder gibt es zum Beispiel zur Mykosis fungoides 46, zur Psoriasis vulgaris 93 und zum malignen Melanom 107 Bilder – alle sorgfältig ausgewählt, um sämtliche Manifestationen dieser Krankheiten zu zeigen. Die Krankheiten sind alphabetisch geordnet, so dass die entsprechenden Kapitel schnell zu finden sind. Die Bilder selbst sind nach Aspekten wie „Verteilung“, „Konfiguration“, „individuelle Effloreszenzen“ und „chronologische Entwicklung“ geordnet. Neben den Bildern enthalten die Kapitel einen knappen Kommentar, der in die Punkte „Definition“, „diagnostische Untersuchungen“, „Verlauf“, „Integration“ und „Therapie“ gegliedert ist.

A. Bernard Ackerman and his international coauthors have presented us with a superb source for teaching the specialty of dermatology and for expanding the practitioner’s clinical horizons. Whereas many atlases of dermatology are oriented toward a more generalist practitioner, this atlas will be of particular value to the dermatologic specialist, although all practitioners would benefit by having it in their personal library. … The book’s emphasis is on the photographs; the written text is brief, crisp, and very focused. … In summary, this is an atlas with short text sections and literally thousands of superb clinical photographs showing the many aspects of clinical dermatology. It is a book that should be on every dermatologist’s shelf.

This is a handsome book, nicely produced, with excellent clinical and histopathologic photographs, and I am happy to have it in my collection. Furthermore, I recommend that anyone with an interest in collecting and viewing superb photographs of skin lesions should consider adding this work to his or her collection.
